KHRD Exposes Iran’s Violations at UN: Civilian Killings, Internet Blackouts, and Minority Targeting

The Kurdistan Human Rights Development Organization (KHRD) participated in the 61st Session of the United Nations Human Rights Council held at the Palais des Nations in Geneva from 23 February to 31 March 2026. Hazher Ghadery (CEO and Director), Lukman Aliassi (President), and Edris Aliassi (Director of Communications)

represented KHRD at the session. During the session, KHRD strongly condemned the actions of the Iranian authorities, raising serious concerns over widespread human rights violations.

KHRD highlighted reports indicating that around 40,000 civilians have been killed during recent protests, along with systematic repression, including internet shutdowns and restrictions on communication. The organization also emphasised discriminatory practices, noting that 60% of executions in Iran reportedly involve Kurdish individuals and 20% of Baloch minorities, pointing to the disproportionate targeting of ethnic groups.

Additional concerns raised included the continued use of the death penalty and the growing issue of drug use in Iran. The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights also condemned the actions of the Iranian authorities, reinforcing the urgency of the situation. KHRD reaffirmed its commitment to advocating for justice, accountability, and the protection of human rights in Iran.
