KHRD President Participates in Geneva Side Event on Transnational Repression

On 21 September 2026, Mr Lukman Aliassi, President of Kurdistan Human Rights Development, represented the organisation at “Iran: Repression Without Borders", a side event held at the Palais des Nations in Geneva alongside the 63rd session of the United Nations Human Rights Council.

The event was convened to examine transnational repression attributed to Iranian authorities and consider possible responses. Its focus concerned the protection of individuals beyond Iran’s borders and the challenges of addressing human rights violations across jurisdictions.

The published programme identified Taimoor Aliassi, of the Kurdistan Human Rights Association–Geneva, as host and moderator. Listed speakers included Roya Boroumand, of the Abdorrahman Boroumand Center for Human Rights in Iran; Nasser Boladai, of the Balochistan Human Rights Group; Fariba Balouch, a Baloch human rights activist; and Jennifer Robinson, an international human rights lawyer and counsel for BBC Persian.

The programme also listed Mai Sato, UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Islamic Republic of Iran, and Sara Hossain, Chair of the Independent International Fact-Finding Mission on the Islamic Republic of Iran, to provide concluding remarks.

KHRD’s participation was consistent with its institutional commitment to promoting the rights and fundamental freedoms of the Kurdish people and other marginalised communities. The organisation remains committed to advancing human dignity, equality and the protection of minority rights through its advocacy and engagement with international human rights mechanisms.
